CHICAGO (AP) -- Communities are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day across Illinois. Gov. Pat Quinn planned two events for Mondays holiday. He was to speak at a scholarship breakfast in Chicago and then hold a forum in the afternoon focusing on diversity in higher education. Community groups in southern Illinois planned observances, ceremonies and other events in places like Swansea, East St. Louis, Belleville and Edwardsville. Students at Eastern Illinois University planned a candlelight vigil and march. Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon said she was going to participate in a service day in the Chicago suburbs and then attend an event at the DuSable Museum of African-American History. U.S. Sen.
