CHICKENS! :) My mom use to compare her children to chickens. We would be running around, back, and forth through the house, and she would say, Slow down...you kids are running around like chickens, with their heads chopped off! Today, so many things are fighting for our time, and attention. We are busy, busy, busy. This reminds me of Martha, and Mary. Martha was overly concerned about what needed to be done. I bet she was always busy, running around, like a chicken with its head chopped off. How does a chicken act, after getting its head chopped off? I am an expert, in this field, so i will answer. Lol! My mom taught me how to chop off a chickens head. Ugh! She may have taught me, but it was like that old saying...you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink. My mom taught me, and I learned, but i did not do. Lol! I do remember what the chickens did, after having their little heads chopped off. It was a strange sight, watching a headless chicken, running around the yard, while its head was still on the tree stump...just clucking away. As a young girl, it reminded me of The Twilight Zone, or an episode of Alfred Hitchcock. Spooky times with my mom, and her chickens! Lol! Back to Martha. It wasnt that Martha shouldnt have gotten the meal ready...it was Marthas mindset. She was so busy; she couldnt even see what was really important. All she could think about, was her sister sitting there, at the feet of Jesus, instead of helping her. I think Martha was having a little pity party. Whose fault was it, that Martha was overwhelmed, with so much work? Martha probably cooked too many side dishes, and wanted everything to be perfect. On the other hand, Mary wanted nothing more than to sit, and listen to Jesus. I can just hear Mary, Martha, why dont we just have leftovers, tonight. That would not do, for Martha,,,she had to prove, to the Lord, that she was a hard worker. How sad, to be so busy, when she could have saved herself so much time. Mary knew the importance of sitting, with the Lord, and keeping her peace. Yes, Martha was running around just like a chicken, with its head chopped off. She was complaining about something she brought on herself, and blaming Mary for her situation. No time for Martha to hear the word of the Lord, and to sit in his presence. If you are running around like a chicken...stop, and think about what you are missing. We have things that must be done, but to put so much on our plates, that we have no time for God, and family...will only wear us out, and take our peace. Dont be running around, like a chicken, with its head chopped off...be like Mary, who knew the importance of spending time with the Lord. Jesus told Martha, after she had complained about Mary not helping her, Mary has chosen the good part, and it shall not be taken away from her. We can get so busy, we cant even see, or experience the good part. Maybe its time to stop blaming everyone else, for the stressfulness of situations we bring on ourselves, and lack of time for the good things. Just like a headless chicken, we can get so busy that we cant seem to slow down...we just go, and go, and go. If we make the decision to slow down, God will back us up. We can slow down, and sit at the feet of Jesus, or we can just keep... running, and running, and running, and clucking, and clucking, and clucking... just like a chicken, running around, with its head chopped off. ♥
