Dear Sir, DELIBERATE MARGINALIZATION OF ORLU ZONE IN THE APPOINTMENT OF ZONAL COORDINATORS/COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF STATE IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE FOR THE COMMUNITY SERVICES, WOMEN AND YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROJECT OF SURE-P IN IMO STATE. I am compelled as a concerned and bonafide indigene of Orlu Zone to most respectfully bring to your knowledge what I consider as an unfair and unjust treatment mated out to the people of Orlu Zone with regard to the lopsided appointment of members of the State Implementation Committee of the Community Service, women and Youth Employment (CS/WYE) project of Sure-P in Imo State. It is very disheartening to not that whereas Owerri and Okigwe Zone are adequately represented in the afore-mentioned committee by the fact that the committee members representing Owerri and Okigwe Zones are bonafide son/daughter of their various zones, Orlu Zone is represented by a person from another zone. Orlu zone was short changed in that Owerri zone man in the person of one Chief Emeka Emerole was appointed to represent Orlu Zone in the Committee. The appointment of Chief Emerolr who is from Ezinihitte-Mabise L.G.A of Owerri Zone to represent Orlu Zone is subtly suggesting that Orlu zone is bereft of the requisite manpower to manage her affairs. The imposition of an Owerri zone man on the people of Orlu zone is a calculated attempt to subjugate the good people of Orlu to whims and caprices of the Owerri zone man-Chief Emerole in the committee especially on issues affecting Orlu zone. This was exemplified during the last recruitment of beneficiaries in which Chief Emerole took most of the forms meant for Orlu zone to his home town in Ezinihitte Mbaise thereby denying the unemployed persons of Orlu zone their legitimate chance in the programme. This situation left Orlu in a pitiable position as her interest will certainly not be well presented in the decision/policy is a total foreigner in Orlu zone as such does not understand the socio-political terrain of the zone and will not be representative enough to adequately protect the interest of Orlu zone. It is an incontrovertible fact that Orlu Zone is the biggest zone in Imo State in terms of the number of LGA’s (12 LGA’s) in the zone and is obviously not bereft of the requisite human resource to represent her in any sphere of life. Te current situation in which Chief Emerole from Ezinihitte Mbaise, Owerri zone is appointed to represent Orlu zone in the Sure-P committee leaves much to be desired and and completely negates the appointment is capable of engendering some measure of acrimony and unhealthy rivalry between the two zones (Owerri and Orlu) as Orlu zone people are already feeling cheated and that Owerri zone has cunningly outsmarted them. Let me also inform you Sir that Chief Emerole’s appointment has also received wide spread condemnation in Orlu zone and is likely to spark off and unprecedented protest within the zone if nothing is done urgently to remedy the situation. Meanwhile, it is on record that Sure-P coordinator at the Local Government level once petitioned the Chairman of the State Implementation Committee in Imo State-Hon Jasper Ndubuaku who instead of seeing merit in the petition chose to intimidate the LGA coordinators with sack threat which the coordinators to withdraw their petition. However, as a way of further registering the unacceptability of Chief Emerole (an Oweei zone man) by Orlu people, the LGA coordinators unanimously ignored a maiden zonal coordinator’s meeting convened by Chief Emerole. The people of Orlu view this appointment of an Owerri zone man to represent them as utter neglect and slight as well as a tacit way of subjugating Orlu zone to Owerri zone. This development is capable of straining the cordial relationship existing between the good people of Orlu and Owerri zones. It is therefore in the light of the fore-going that I humbly request that a true Orlu zone indigene be appointed to replace Chief Emerole to give the people of Orlu a sense of belonging in the nation’s scheme of things as anything short of replacing Chief Emerole now will amount to a deliberate marginalization of Orlu zone whose communities constitute a major stakeholder in the resource base of this nation. Orlu zone has credible, responsible, and will qualified sons and daughters who can fit into any committee to represent her interest to the fullest.
