CHILTERN CURIOS AND ROYAL REGATTA CRUISE - 24TH JUNE 2014 Come and meet our Upper Thames guide in Marlow at 11.00am to buy morning refreshments before setting off to discover some Chilterns Curios on a scenic tour to Henley. The valley sides rising steeply from the Thames are an absolute warren of single track roads tunnelling through dense woodland and it takes a guide who really knows this neck of the woods to take a coach safely through this beautiful countryside studded with grand country estates and houses straight from the pages of Country Life. See the picturesque hamlets filmed for Morse and Midsomer Murders, discover a remarkable and towering old pottery kiln and, would you believe it, a Victorian drinking well donated by an Indian Maharajah who felt sorry for the locals who, he had heard, had no running water and were forced to drink from dirty puddles. We arrive at Henley, Queen of the Thames, for lunch. This is a marvellous place - a well-heeled seaside town on the river, a riparian Southwold! A good long lunch hour gives you plenty of time to browse. Visit the River & Rowing Museum (fee), mooch around the shops or enjoy inspecting the boats moored along the riverside. At 4.00pm we board the boat for a gorgeous late afternoon cruise. There’s lots to see beneath vast Thames skies from the boats moored at the up market Harleyford Marina, the breath taking riverside houses and Medmenhan Abbey - once the home of the notorious Hellfire Club. We’ll pass through three locks including Hambleden Lock, one of the prettiest on the Thames. There is a bar on board for hot and cold drinks. You’ll be back at Marlow to head home at 6.30pm ONLY £ 48.00 FOR THIS TRIP - CALL US ON 023 80844788 TO BOOK
