CHOOKS SOAPBOX MOMENT. This post is from the sick feeling I get when I look at the comparison between the mammoth effort that some of the most important (doing), people in our society actually do. Im speaking of nurses, firemen, and police. And the almost arrogant contempt politicians seem to have for their also most important role they play in that same society. Be it town councillor, state or federal minister or premier or even the leader of the country. Now the first group work for wage/salary dictated by the second group of people. So we all vote them in and they award our wage yet appoint a panel to administer their wage, (question 1). When a nurse makes a life or death decision, its based on another persons welfare, the last thing on their mind is their wage! Or what if a fireman rushes to a families burning home to extinguish and fire they consider the welfare of those at risk even the family pet has more importance than their own life in some circumstances I would find it impossible to believe they would only work to the wage Their paid and then let someone else put the fire out or save a pet! What about a police investigation into some low life criminal prowling assaulting or molesting parts of society? If those appointed keep the peace, (within the law as legislated) if they knocked off once their considered worth/salary comparison is reached. This would lead to out right anarchy. Now consider a politician they are just the same as anyother person doing a job for a wage/salary yet they can make a mistake that costs 100s of $1000s of dollars even $1,000,000s of dollars ( not their money), this is a great waste, and the ripples it creates can have even deeper ramifications unbeknown to those that make the blunder. Now politicians have an immunity to prosecution. This should not allow them not to be fully accountable for their seemingly ignorant deceptions and lack of responsibility to others welfare, showing apathy even contempt for tax payers money. Their lack of concern for others welfare due to lost or wrongly invested funds, (tax payers money) being used for egocentric ideals, or tax payers money to pay for media propaganda to convince society that one policy is better than the oppositions policy, (question 2). Their blunder or need to be historically remembered will now take even more from the same tax payers to vilify their position. Now if anyone working within a business acted like some (most) of the politicians do in parliament these days we would be showen the door post-haste yet we the general population just put up with it ??? Q 1 all gov positions fixed to set salary and only increase on the 1st of July each year to the average of that past Finacial years inflation rate, and their super should not be paid to them on retiring from government. They like all citizens of this country should be paid out at 65yrs of age as per the norm. Q 2 all promises made by politicians should only be for the term of their election and a separate panel be made up of notably suitable persons for long term issues. These board members should be made up of a cross section of society consisting of engineers tradesmen academic higher minds qualified legislators and those with a philanthropic outlook to the welfare of all. Something long term might be a pipeline to bring water from the Kimberlies, to bring water South say town by town, if it was started 20 years ago the cost would be moderated over those years until now but procrastination has seen nothing happen and the price become prohibitive. Just imagine Kalgoolie without the pipeline supplying water over the last 100 or so years
