CHOP scientist Gerd Blobel, M.D., Ph.D., recently published research on a potential future treatment for sickle cell disease. Dr. Blobel reported how his lab manipulated DNA in chromosome loops to decrease the inherited form of abnormal hemoglobin that causes the serious health problems in this disease. If the study team’s research in cell cultures can be advanced to clinical use, the lab findings may lead to a new approach to treating sickle cell disease.
