CHRISTCHURCH (NEW ZEALAND), 16/08/2013 - A man armed with a knife has held upa Christchurch dairy - the latest in a run of dairy holdups in the city. A police communications spokesman said a man walked into Barkers Convenience Store in Withim St, Hornby, about 10.30am today, carrying a 30-40cm knife. Detective Wayne Boyd said the man walked behind the counter to the back of the store and confronted the male owner of the shop, who was alone in the premises at the time. "He forced him to go to the till and has taken a quantity of cash and some cigarettes," he said. "Fortunately the store owner was not injured." The offender ran out of the store and made off on foot, heading south in Blankney St. "We would like to hear from anyone who saw a person in this area around that time, or who can help us identify who this offender is." Security camera images from the store have been released. The man is described as a Maori, about 180cm (5ft 10in) tall, with a beard and moustache. He was wearing a dark ski hat with white markings, a green camo top, dark jeans, dark glasses and Adidas shoes. The incident brings the tally of dairy holdups in Christchurch since the start of the year to at least nine. Arrests have been made for most.
