CHRISTMAS – IS IT HOLY OR SINFUL ACCORDING TO GOD’S WORD? 1.Birthday of Jesus Christ Question 1: Is the Christmas celebration on 25 December a commandment of God or Jesus Christ? Answer 1: NO! There is not a single commandment or verse in the Bible instructing or even hinting to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on 25 December every year. The early church of true apostles and disciples never celebrated this event. As a matter of fact, this celebration was banned by Christians until recent time. In addition, God (in His infinite Wisdom) decided NOT to reveal the actual date Jesus Christ of Nazareth was born on the earth. Surely if this celebration was important, God would have revealed the date of Jesus birth in the Bible and commanded us to keep it. Conclusion 1: a. Since the Christmas celebration is NOT commanded by God and Jesus birthdate has been hidden from us in Gods revealed Word then it MUST BE a tradition of man. In Mark 7:6-9, Jesus calls the Israelites (ie. God’s chosen people) that follow the traditions of man as HYPOCRITES. b. Since Jesus was not born on 25 December, celebrating His birthday on this day is a lie. In John 8:44, Jesus Christ calls Satan as the father of all lies. Therefore this lie (like all other lies) is from Satan. 2. Santa Claus Question 2: Is Santa Claus real? Does Santa fly around on a sleigh on Christmas Eve to deliver gifts to all the children? Answer 2: NO! Santa Claus is a fictional character. Therefore, IF we teach our children to believe in a fictional character, then we are teaching our children to believe a lie and/or live a lie. In Revelation 21:8 & 27, God has made it very clear that everyone practicing falsehood (ie. lies) will not enter Heaven but will have their place in Eternal Hell (eternal lake of fire). In Matthew 15:1-9.........Jesus, saying, “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” Jesus answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?.................Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ Conclusion 2: Therefore IF we teach and practice falsehood/lies, we will not be permitted to enter Heaven BUT will be sent to Hell (eternal lake of fire) – Revelation 21: 8 & 27. 3.Christmas Tree Question 3 : Is putting up the Christmas tree a commandment of God or Jesus Christ? Is it OK to put up a Christmas tree? Answer 3 : NO! There is not a single commandment or verse in the Bible to put a Christmas tree. In addition to this, in Jeremiah 10: 1-4, God commands His people NOT to put up a tree and decorate it with silver and gold. This was a pagan or heathen practice. Conclusion 3: a. Since putting up a Christmas tree is NOT commanded by God, then it MUST BE a tradition of man. In Mark 7:6-9, Jesus calls the Israelites (ie. God’s chosen people) that follow the traditions of men as HYPOCRITES. b. In Jeremiah 10, God has commanded His people NOT to put up a tree and decorate it with silver & gold……sounds like a Christmas tree. Therefore when we put a Christmas tree, we are breaking God’s commandment. 4.Glorify and worship Father God & Jesus Christ through Christmas celebration Question 4: Can I glorify Father God and Jesus Christ thru the Christmas? Answer 4: NO! Apostle Paul explains in Romans 3:7-8: For IF the truth of God has increased through my LIE to His glory, why am I also still JUDGED as A SINNER? And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just. Conclusion 4: According to Gods Word, IF I practise, preach or live a lie to glorify God, I will be judged as a sinner and suffer the condemnation as a sinner. Let the Truth be told - people DO NOT celebrate Christmas to glorify and worship Father God or Lord Jesus Christ. People do it becoz it is fun, merry and full of revelry. People are most likely going to end up eating too much, drinking too much, showing off (in new clothes, toys, decorations, etc), spending too much, borrowing money, etc. According to Gods Word - all these acts are sin. These sins multiply many folds during the Christmas season. Bible says sin is sweet. Can these actions be of the people of a Holy God? The Truth is people celebrate Christmas becoz they enjoy the pleasures of the fun and revelry with famliy and friends. 5. How are we to LOVE GOD? 1 John 5:1-3 Everyone who believes (adheres to, trusts, and relies on the fact) that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah) is a born-again child of God; and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him (His offspring). By THIS WE come to KNOW (recognize and understand) that we love the children of God: when we LOVE GOD and OBEY HIS COMMANDS (orders, charges)—[when we keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and His teaching]. For the [true] LOVE OF GOD is this: that WE DO HIS COMMANDS [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous). In Mark 8:33-35 When Jesus had turned around and looked at His disciples, Jesus rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” When Jesus had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, Jesus said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him DENY HIMSELF, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. In Ephesians 4 Apostle Paul says: Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
