CHRISTOPHER NAWOICHIK: The arts have always played a vital role in the evolving aspect of societies throughout history. Education in humanities provides the opportunity to explore creativity, virtue, and cultural traditions, which bring understanding, value, and meaning to life. Due to austerity and high unemployment rates, it seems that more and more college students are turning to the sciences, with hopes of finding better employment opportunities. This is understandable in such a time. However, it is without a doubt — our society is falling apart. The U.S. is dealing with a debt crisis due to the wars and the atrocious central banking system that is currently in place. The Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing program is doing nothing more than keeping the economy afloat. Corporations have basically bought-out the government — and they outsource multitudes of jobs to offshore locations. We are starting to see the real consequences of a truly FASCIST society. That is, corporations merging with the government through special interests, the Congress and Senate serving the 1% — because of bribes and greed, and the middle class being stomped-out; as the elitist, authoritarian mentality emerges — the age of corporatism becomes reality. Thus, if the American people don’t continue standing their ground upon the ideologies of self-reliance, self-government, entrepreneurship, and being tenacious participants in the remaining tenets of this form of government, then this ‘dark age’ shall get even darker, and ‘America the Beautiful’ will no longer rightfully have this title, because she will NOT represent, “The Land of the Free.”
