CHRONIC FATIGUE Chronic fatigue or chronic fatigue syndrome, abbreviated CFS, is a common symptom referred to the disorder of sleep, continued tiredness and disruption of the immune system. Chronic fatigue is usually accompanied by: - Impairment in short-term memory or concentration - Sore throat - Painful lymph nodes - Muscle or joint pain - Low-grade fever - Headache - Un-refreshing sleep - Discomfort after exercising - Depression CFS CAUSES No primary causes, no blood tests or brain scans can definitively diagnose or explain all cases of CFS. According to a number of experts, CFS may develop from a convergence of conditions including: - Environmental factors - Genetic factors - Brain abnormalities - Inflammation in the nervous system - A hyper-reactive immune system - Viral or other infectious agents - Psychological or emotional conditions CFS can also be caused by: - Too much work - Too much stress - Lack of energy or energy imbalance - Lack of relaxation CFS TREATMENT Due to uncertain causes of CFS, the goals of its treatment is just to prevent or relieve symptoms. Common therapies for CFS may include: - Prescription medications - Nutritional supplements - Proper diets - Change of bad habits - Cognitive behavioral therapy - Graded exercise therapy - Other complementary/alternative treatments
