CISDL Programme Assistant, Cambridge UK INVITATION TO APPLY Are you interested in law and policy on sustainable development? Would you like to help coordinate projects that support the green economy in Africa and Latin America? Would you like to be part of the global CISDL network, collaborating with others around the world? Would you like to gain experience in international project assistance and financial management? The Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), an international law research centre is seeking a Cambridge-based Programme Assistant for our sustainable development law projects, including “Law & Sustainable Development of Biofuels in the Americas” with the Organization of American States. Assisting the leaders of CISDL projects in Latin America and Africa, the Programme Assistant will support the efforts of leading CISDL Legal Counsel and Research Fellows to secure sustainable development through legal innovation and empowerment, integrating social, environmental and economic priorities for the UN, the OAS and other institutions in developing countries. Initial project activities include the development of new law and policy tools, and biofuels law and policy seminars in Jamaica. Geared toward senior policy-makers, the private sector and civil society, the tools, seminars and online interactions will help Central American and Caribbean countries to promote compliance with laws and policies for sustainable development of renewable energy, including biofuels. The successful candidate will join and learn from the Project, building new professional networks internationally and gaining experience in project management by ‘learning through doing’. They will receive a pro bono contract for a duration of one year, with a CAD$2500.00 honorarium for successful completion. Tasks will include: 1. Assisting to develop and implement international projects related to sustainable development, including with financial management, logistical and other support 2. Helping to coordinate research and publications with a world-wide network of researchers and experts, including support for the editing of a series of volumes for Cambridge University Press 3. Helping to coordinate international outreach for sustainable development law and policy initiatives, including translating discoveries into user-friendly materials for dissemination online, through specialized networks, and to the interested public The anticipated time commitment, concurrent with studies and/or other engagements, is 3-6 days per month on average over the year, subject to seasonal flexibility and agreed work-plans / abilities / pace. Ideal Candidate Profile & Minimum Requirements Students and young professionals of management, administration, law, accounting, environment, development or humanities, with high levels of academic achievement and performance, and excellent project assistance skills, including: - Excellent organizational, management and administrative skills, including developing and disseminating materials, coordinating international logistics, and administering/reporting on project finances; - Strong research and analytical skills, with excellent English grammar and spelling, and Spanish or French an asset - High capacity for initiative and international teamwork across time zones; - Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to project tasks within tight deadlines, working with minimal supervision; - Interest in discovering more about law related to sustainable development, especially for renewable energy / biofuels, climate change, agriculture and land tenure,, rural development and sustainable water and land management, taxation, finance and investment, environmental and natural resources, and/or human rights.
