CITIZENS BEWARE! This is a tragic and sad day for the Citizens of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino professional Firefighters. Today is the last day of service for medic engine 224 and Station 230 on Mill and Arrowhead which houses Medic Engine 230 and the Citys only Heavy Rescue unit. The city council voted to shut down these fire companies in a split 3to3 vote with the Mayor breaking the tie and his campaign promise. Engine 224 is the second busiest Medic Engine in the City running over 5 thousand calls for service a year. Just this morning before 11am it responded to two fires and two medical emergencies. The only people to get hurt buy these senseless cuts is going to be the good citizens of these communities. Both these stations and their equipment have been serving the people for over 50 years. Emergency responses and the ability to suppress fires before they get bigger our going to be greatly compromised. Even the recent City Gate report issued to the Council and Mayor stated their will be significant impacts to emergency service delivery if the City was to shut down fire companies. The people deserve better then this and should contact their local representatives and demand them to do their jobs as government officials and properly protect the people. They voted to close down these companies and with the next breath voted to spend $750,000.00 dollars on executive salaries at city hall. This is an insult to the tax payers and city employees.
