CITU condemns Termination, victimization and repression on Striking workers working in LEIGHTON company 30th October 2013 The State Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions denounces the brutal repression, victimization, termination through dismissal, arrests and police repression by M/s LIEGHTON which runs the construction works of four lane road and tunnel from Chanani to Nasari. The strike was not a sudden one as the concerned workers’ union gave due notice for the strike and as such has been pursuing with the LIEGHTON and state government and the state labour department for more than a year for redressal of their genuine grievances and for implementation of the law of the land in respect of termination, working hours and other services conditions. The workers are being terminated illegally for more than one year and force to work for 12 hours without any compensation for extra hours of work, ignore local recruitment, not recognized the union for negotiation, not allowed the workers for gate meeting etc. the LIEGHTON company exploiting the workers and mint profit out of the same by forcing the workers to work for 12 hours without any compensation for extra hours with such paltry wage. And the state government instead of intervening to discipline and prevail upon LIEGHTON to sort out the burning issues of termination, working hours and wages with the concerned workers’ union, has been indulging and patronizing the company. Already 10 workers dismissed and repression and victimization on the workers going on. While condemning such anti-workers approach of the company, CITU demands upon the Govt to intervene to ensure that all the dismissed workers are reinstated and prevail upon LEIGHTON to sort out other demands with the workers’ union within the framework of the law of the land.
