CITY COUNCIL BRIEFS FROM TONIGHT . . . Council approved the purchase of three diesel-powered parallel transit buses, two for transit use and one for Valleyview Home. The buses are similar in design and seating capacity to the exisiting cutaway-style buses. The city will not respond to any questions or comments from a public meeting held a year ago on the widening of Fairview Ave. to four lanes between Southdale and Elm until another public information centre is held to update residents on the project that council now appears lukewarm on based on lengthy debate tonight. The city will not establish a reserve fund for future capital projects at the Seniors Centre. Instead it will continue with the existing process of granting $30,000 a year unless an emergency arises. Council will utilize the services of Ascent (St. Thomas Energy) to establish an IT strategy for the future. Proposal from Ascent should be ready for council this fall. More to follow.
