CITY OF DEARBORN Fitness Instructor GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR RATE OF PAY: $20.00 – $24.00 per class HOURS: Days, evenings, and weekends GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An employee in this position provides instructional services and directs and assists with class supervision and teaching skills within area of expertise. Classes may include, but are not limited to: yoga, zumba, step aerobics, water exercise, body sculpting, cycling, etc. The facility is open early morning to late evening seven days a week. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Functions essential to attaining job objectives): • Supervises and/or instructs programs, activities, and special events as required. • Resolves problems and/or complaints from spectators, participants and subordinates. • Follows established guidelines, policies and procedures. • Attends staff meetings and training as needed. • Reports problems as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Considerable knowledge of teaching methods as required for particular class. • Considerable knowledge of the equipment and facilities needed for particular class. • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct particular class or activity specified. • Ability to lead, instruct and advise individuals participating in class or activity specified. • Ability to speak and work with the public. • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with other employees, program participants, and the general public. • Ability to maintain accurate records. • The duties require a responsible, mature, dependable individual with considerable public contact experience and ability. • Willingness and ability to accept responsibility for building facilities and to resolve problems and complaints. • Primary group exercise certification preferred. • Some Instructor experience in area(s) of expertise preferred. • Must be CPR certified or be able to gain certification within 90 days of hire. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must submit to a criminal history check, drug screen and physical. Possession of valid Michigan driver license, good driving record, and willingness to operate own vehicle if driving is required for this position.
