CITY OF NEWARK OFFERING SERIES OF FREE CPR/AED AND FIRST AID TRAINING; PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION Classes will be held at Department of Health and Community Wellness at 110 William Street from August 21 through September 11 Newark, NJ - August 7, 2014 - Mayor Ras J. Baraka and the Department of Health and Community Wellness Director Dr. Hanaa Hamdi announced today that the Departments Metropolitan Medical Response System is partnering with the American Heart Association to offer a series of FREE CPR/AED and First Aid training for Newark residents, municipal employees, and college students, beginning on Thursday, August 21, and continuing through Thursday, September 11, 2014. Participants who complete the course will receive American Heart Association certifications for Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Automated External Defibrillators, and First Aid for two years. The classes will have nine sessions. A list of dates, times, and subject matter is given below. Space is limited, so registration is first-come, first-served. Public safety is the highest priority of this administration, and few things enhance public safety more than saving lives in a crisis situation. CPR/AED and First Aid training can enable a person to save a life in an emergency, Mayor Baraka said. I urge Newark residents to participate in this course. The knowledge you gain today could save the life of a neighbor, friend, or loved one tomorrow. The Department of Health and Community Wellness is committed to empowering Newark residents with the tools they need to maintain their own health and those of their families. Being able to perform CPR and First Aid in a crisis situation is one such form of empowerment, and I am proud of how our team has partnered with the American Heart Association to develop this course, which will help residents know how to save lives. Instructions for registration: 1. Go to uhnj.org/cpr 1. Click on Newark Courses from the menu on the left side of the web page. 2. From the drop down menu on the top of the page click on Newark Department of Child and Well Being . 3. You will then see the Healthcare Provider Courses as well as the CPR/AED and First Aid courses, broken down by location. 4. When you click on the course you want simply chose one of the available dates. 5. After registering you will receive an automated email with the particulars of the course (location, times, parking, etc.) 6. You will also receive a reminder email 24 hours prior to the course date as well as a thank you after the course (assuming they attended). 7. In 21 months after the class you will receive a reminder email reminding you to recertify.
