CLAIRE update: if you think about it, pray for Claire. In many - TopicsExpress

CLAIRE update: if you think about it, pray for Claire. In many ways, she is a normal infant now and you would never know that she had endured such trauma at the beginning of her life. But, the one thing we are struggling with is her lack of appetite and resulting lack of weight gain. Since birth, Claire has shown little to no hunger cues, and although she initially increased her milk intake to two ounces rather quickly, now at 4 mos. she still will rarely drink more than 1.5-2 ozs at a time. In contrast, Victoria drinks 5-6 ozs at a time and is only eating 4-5 meals a day whereas Claire is still needing 8 feedings and through the night feedings to continue to grow - she still eats like a 2-month old. Her length continues to track with Victoria but she is gaining weight much more slowly. The gap on her growth chart between her length and weight measurements continues to widen and has now widened to the point where she is now classified as a failure to thrive infant. We have all kinds of things we are doing to try and correct this and I am just praying that something will work. If her growth chart does not show correction in the next 4-6 weeks we may be looking at a NICU stay and feeding tubes. She just has no fat stores available to deal with an illness and we are heading into flu season soon.
