CLARIFYING THE CLAIM ALLAAH IS EVERYWHERE Alhamdulillaah, The divine attribute ‘Uluw means Allaah is above His creation, and nothing is above Him. He is neither within His creation, nor part of His creation. Creation cannot encompass Him. The Creator is completely separate & distinct from His creation. To some like the Sufis & other deviant sects, their belief is that Allaah lives in animals, human beings & every other thing. #Subhaanallaah! The main danger of this thought is that it opens the door to the worship of creation. If Allaah is everywhere, it means He is in His creation. If that is true, then why not worship the creation itself? Naam??? It becomes especially easy for people to start saying Allaah is in their own souls & accept worship. Countless kings, ordinary individuals like the Pharaohs of Egypt & Jesus were so worshipped, though the latter did not accept being worshipped (Eesa, Alaehis-Salaam ) by his followers. SIMPLE & EASY TO UNDERSTAND EVIDENCE THAT ALLAAH IS NOT EVERYWHERE #First, The Quraan describes the exaltedness or highness of Allaah in different ways, as His being high & above, & by describing how things come down from Him, & go up to Him, & by stating that He is above heaven. For example: (HIGHNESS): … and He is the Most High, the Most Great. [2:255] Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. [87:1] (ABOVE): And He is the Irresistible, above His slaves … [6:18] They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded. [16:50] (THINGS COMING DOWN FROM HIM): He arranges (every) affair from the heavens to the earth … [32:5] Verily We: it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e., the Quran) … [15:9] (THINGS GOING UP TO HIM): … To Him ascend (all) the goodly words, and the righteous deeds exalt it … [35:10] The angels and the Rooh (Jibreel) ascend to Him … [70:4] (ALLAAH IS ABOVE HEAVEN): Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven, will not cause the earth to sink with you …? [67:16] & so many other proofs from the Quraan... #Second Even the Sunnah of Rasool, Sollallaahu alaehi wa sallam shows Allaah is not everywhere. & an example of an approval of the Prophet which indicates that Allaah is exalted & high is the Hadeeth concerning the young slave girl, to whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Where is Allah? She said: In heaven. He asked, Who am I? She said, The Messenger of Allah. So he said to her master: Set her free, for she is a believer. [Muslim] This young girl was uneducated, as many are, and she was a slave, but she knew that her Lord is above heaven. Some misguided people deny that Allah is above heaven, and say, He is neither above nor below; neither to the right nor to the left. He is everywhere! #Third Lets look at the statement of the one who Rasool said he is the best of his Ummah. Abu Bakr As-Sideeq (Rodiyallaahu anhu) said: Whoever worshipped Mohammed, Mohammed has died. Whoever worshipped Allaah, Allaah is Alive fis-Sama (above the heavens), and death does not touch Him. [Ad-Darimi in Ar-Radd Alal- Jahmiyyah ]. Other than stating that Allaah is indeed above the Heavens, Abu Bakr made another important refutation here. And that is to refute all those who say that Nabiy Mohammed is actually alive & we can direct our dua to him or that he can become a source of shifa (intercession) or wasila (nearness to Allaah) in this life. Indeed, the Prophet will be a shifa for the Muslims on the Day of Judgment & indeed following the command of Allaah & His Rasool will be a source of waseelah in this life but asking the Prophet for intercession in this life or seeking his help in nearness to Allaah by saying O Mohammed, bring us nearer to Allah or O Mohammed, we ask Allaah to grant so and so for your sake is nothing but falsehood and goes against Tawheed. #Forth Two years before the Prophet migrated to Madeenah from Mekkah, he was taken on a miraculous journey to Jerusalem, & from Jerusalem up beyond the seven heavens, to meet who please? Allaah. Edaakun, There would have been no need for him to go up beyond the seven heavens to meet Allaah if He were present everywhere??? #Fifth Even if we are to place it into sense, Highness is a quality which is associated in people’s minds with perfection. If this is the case, then it should be attributed to Allaah nah, because every absolute perfection should be attributed to Him Alone. & the innate instinct of man (fitrah) too proves that Allaah is above His creation. There should be no dispute that man instinctively knows that Allaah is above heaven, because whenever something overwhelming befalls a person, & he turns to Allaah for help, he looks towards heaven, not in any other direction. But it is strange that those who deny that Allaah is above His creation still raise their hands in supplication to no other direction than towards heaven. NOTE - AllaAh’s being above His creation does not mean He is not aware of His creation. He is aware of all that happens in the universe, nothing escapes His vision, hearing, power, and ability. The following verses should be understood in this context: “And We are closer to Him than his jugular vein.” (50:16) “Be aware that Allaah comes between a man and his heart.” (8:24) *These verses do not & never meant Allaah is inside a man. They simply mean that nothing escapes Allaah’s knowledge, He knows even the most innermost thoughts of man, as Allaah says in another verse in the Quraan: “Do they not realize Allah knows what they hide and what they expose?” (2:77) In summary, based on the Quraan & Sunnah Allah is above the universe in a manner befitting His greatness; the creation is not in Him, nor is He contained by His creation. However, He is all Aware & Able in His knowledge, power, & ability operate within every single particle of the universe. WE PRAY ALLAAH WIDENS OUR UNDERSTANDING OF HIS DEEN. Subhaanaka Allaahumma wabihamdika, Ash hadu anlaa ilaaha illaa anta, Astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilaek.
