CLEAR VIEW OF FOUR KINDS OF SOIL (Read Mark 4:1-20) JESUS SAYS PEOPLE RESPOND to the Good News in one of four ways. They respond according to what kind of soul they are. The Parable of the Sower is found in Mark 4. It is better call it.... the Parable of the Four soils. Jesus often taught in parables because these simple stories taken from everyday life were vivid illustrations of the Kingdom of God.. People did not always understand the parables. Jesus implies that some degree of spiritual receptivity is needed. This particular parable, however, is explained by Jesus Himself. He interprets the parable, so all we need is to apply it to ourselves. Jesus says the first kind of soil is hard soil. This is the soil of the beaten path. Countless people have trod on this path, making it hard. Some seed fell along the path but there is little chance for life or growth. The soil is too hard. In addition, the seed of the Word of God is immediately taken away by the birds, and they represent Satan. The second kind of soil is rocky soil. The thin layer of the soil that wraps the rocks can provide some life for the seed that fell upon the rocks, but only for a short while. When the sun comes up, meaning trouble pr persecution on account of the word (nasaktan direcly hit with the message), the planted shrivels, dries up, and dies. These people fall away. Their initial response to the Word of God is enthuastic, but it is short-lived (hindi nagtatagal) The third kind of soil is thorny soil. THis is actually rich soil, able to sustain life. The seed that feel among the thorns actually produce a plant, but the thorny plants also grow quickly, and they overwhelm the plant from the seed. The plant from the seed is thus unable to bear fruit. The choking effect comes from the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and desires for other things. The fourth kind of soil is GOOD SOIL. Seed sown into this soil is fruitful. This good soil are the people ...who hear the Word, and accept it, providing the seed a home in their hearts. No wonder the Word multiples thirty times, or sixty times, or even a hundred times. GOOD PRODUCES A LOT OF FRUIT! THE FOUR PREPOSITIONS JESUS uses make his npoint clear : along, upon, among into. SEED along ... hard soil; SEED upon.... rocky soil; SEED among ....the thorny plants; and SEED into ....good soil. Which kind of soil are you? How are you responding to the Word of God.
