Under 21s win Quarter Final Our under 21s made a great start to the under 21 championship in a game that was tense and intriguing right to the final whistle. We got a great start with a Mark McGrory goal and then four points, all from play, from man-of-the-match Shane Moran plus one from a free by Luke Murphy left us 1-5 to 0-6 ahead at half time. After half time Shane Moran pointed a free and Mark McGrory was on hand to finish a fairly lucky goal to put us 2-6 to 0-7 ahead. Manor got a couple of points and Luke Murphy got two good points to leave it 2-8 to 0-8 with ten minute to go. From that on we were living on our nerves as Glencar/Manorhamilton staged attack after attack.. They got three points in this period but it could have been more and we survived with great efforts from all to win by 2-8 to 0-11. For donkeys years this always seems to be a problem when we meet Glencar/Manor. Two teams playing with identical yellow jerseys and only O’Heslin’s green shorts and Manor’s blue shorts to distinguish them. Even that wasn’t foolproof as at least one player had white togs. It was impossible for players, the referee and supporters. It is a situation that should be foreseen by both clubs in future and some arrangement made for both clubs to change. In the past, in seems it is always left to O’Heslin’s to change, if it is done at all. Division 3 big win, but not enough Our Division 3 team finished their league campaign with a big win over Annaduff on Sunday. It was a very easy passage with a final score of 9-12 to 0-3. However, we depended on other results but both Mohill and Dromahair won also and so we finished just one point behind the two of them in the race for promotion. Bon Voyage Best wishes to Brian Cafferty who is going to Bahrain next weekend. Brian was one of our most reliable footballers who never missed a game. He was also a great Scór man who danced in an All Ireland Scór na nÓg final in Rince Seit and he also was on a Novelty Act team that reached the All Ireland Final in the same year. The year was 1996 and, amazingly, Brian also won a county title in Trath na gCeist in the same year, making it a treble at County level.
