CMAT 2014 (First Test) – An Overview With the first test of the CMAT 2014 (First Test) concluding yesterday, we look back at it through the eyes of the aspirants who have taken the test. Here are a few first-hand experiences about the test. Laxmi Pillai, a BMS graduate took up the test on the third day at the Kohinoor Business School. “The LR and LC section were the easiest amongst the four sections”, says Laxmi who aspires to specialize in the Finance domain. Pavan Shetty, a JBIMS aspirant shares a similar opinion. He adds, “The Quant and DI section was the toughest and time-consuming as well.” Pavan also aspires to take SNAP, NMAT and IBSAT. Samruddhi Deshmukh, a 22 year old Arts graduate was amongst the first takers of the CMAT. “My only concern was the General Awareness Section which as I expected was tougher.” Samruddhi gives a lot of credit to her test prep classes. “My concepts and fundamentals were thorough and the mock tests helped me immensely to get the feel of the test beforehand”, says the HR aspirant. Aditya Kulkarni, an IT professional with over 3 years of experience in a software company took the CMAT just to get the feel of online tests. “I had taken MBA-CET after my graduation and now after having some professional experience, my focus is on CAT”, says Aditya who has IIM Bangalore on his mind. Overview The overall test conducted over 5 days with 2 slots per day was similar to CMAT 2013 as far as the pattern was concerned. The QT & DI and LR sections were similar in terms of difficulty whereas the Verbal section was slightly tougher owing to the appearance of group questions and longer passages as well. The General Awareness section which is often dreaded by aspirants consisted of a higher number of static GK questions as compare to the previous CMATs. Experts believe that a score of about 235-240 would be enough to secure a spot in the top 15 business schools. mbaupdates
