CNN has announced layoffs of some of their senior staff at the DC bureau office, and will be replacing them with younger staffers. Now what this signals is more ominous than just age discrimination in lieu of cheaper staffers…it sets a precedence where the corporate sponsors dictate what is news and what is not. A younger staff brought on board that is more in tune with what makes money for the sponsors, than actual news and information for the readers, viewers and subscribers. I don’t think too many would cry to see Piers Morgan and a few other shock jock wanna be’s and failed actors turned news anchors let go, but the news used to be about the news, not tabloid trash TV that caters to the undereducated that represent a 51% target market for commercial sponsors products. Buyer beware, even if you are reading the news. An interesting de-evolution of the phenomenon of capitalistic control and leverage of a commodity, this time it’s information.
