Q&A

CO-PAYMENTS AND HEALTH – Dr Hamdy Boulis has asked: I agree with Josh Frydenberg when he says that a tough budget was inevitable. I also agree with his statement, “we inherited this problem and now we are going to fix it.” But I would like to ask: Would it have been more appropriate if these measures and decisions were taken with consultation with the relevant bodies and concerned organisations? I am a GP - a family doctor. I have been practicing at my own clinic for 29 years, treating the disadvantaged , patients with disabilities, patients with mental illnesses, lone people living at home or at Boarding Houses , elderly patients living at Nursing homes, children with foster parents ...and I can reassure you ,those people will be the first and the foremost to be affected by the new budget even with the proposed allowances in place. Did the government consider for example the fact that children vaccination rates might drop, elderly at homes or at nursing homes will hesitate before calling a doctor, management of the mentally ill will be suboptimal with subsequent risk to the patients and the community? What do you think? You can stream #QandA live here: abc.net.au/tv/qanda/join-the-discussion.htm
