::::: COLTS SPORTMANSHIP HAILED BY RUGBY NEWS :::: Over the weekend we kept you updated on the progress of our COLTS as they battled it out against Penrith on the front field of RAT PARK. While the COLTS won both their matches, in our updates we alluded to the fact that something pretty special was happening that afternoon that only a few who were on the front field got to witness. This week you will start to get a fuller picture of the character of the WARRINGAH COLTS as we bring you the articles our various friends in the media are jumping on. For in the words of a few journalists and editors - this is what rugby is REALLY all about. Penrith were already light on numbers when the 1st grade Colts took to the field, but injury was to impact them to the point where they lost 1/3 of their team. Facing forfeiture, RATS Colts SANDY BUTTERWORTH, CAMERON MILLING, CALEB ONEILL, NICHOLAS CONDON and ANDREW SCOGNAMIGLIO came off the bench, tossed on the Emu jersey to play against their RATS teammates. With the Emus still incurring injury and without a physio or medical staff of their own, RATS physio ANGUS CRAWFORD TADMAN stepped up and began to treat the Emu casualties. The Penrith players were exhausted, with some having already had to play earlier in 2nd Grade. After the RATS scored yet another try, a few exhausted Emu players took respite on the fence, trying to catch their breath. But the PenRATS urged them on, encouraging them to keep going. And so they did. We can vouch for the fact that the RATS playing for Penrith played with heart.....as did their teammates still wearing the RATS kit, who certainly didnt go lightly on the five. So much so that KEVIN PALAVI-FIU delivered a not-so-little nudge to ANDREW SCOGNAMIGLIO who tried in vein to stop BIG KEV from scoring. We can vouch that SCOGS was smiling on the way down to the ground!! And RATS forward NICHOLAS CONDON, clad in the Emu jersey, took one for the team - he suffered a season-ending broken ankle in a tackle as he made a break through RATS lines. In the end the RATS won - by a lot. But as we said on the weekend, the scores didnt matter for it was the admirable conduct and character of the RATS COLTS and the courage and determination of a weary Emus side that was the standout performance. At the end of the match, Penriths Colts captain called the players from both sides together and led a prayer of thanks in appreciation for the sportsmanship and camaraderie shown by the RATS COLTS. It was a true reflection of what the rugby spirit is about and what the RATS COLTS stand for - mateship. It was only a shame more people didnt get to witness it on the day. Today, Penrith Coach Teki Tuipulotu said the RATS COLTS should be admired for their exemplary conduct and that he and his club look forward to welcoming the boys to Nepean in Round 14 and returning the favour. In the meantime, enjoy this article by our friend Brendan Bradford from Rugby News, who himself has stepped in and pulled on the Emu kit to help the Penrith 4th Grade side when they were short. A better man couldnt have written this article! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ENTIRE COLTS SQUAD. Whether you played in the RATS kit or the colours of Penrith, in 1st or 2nd grade, you represented your club extremely well on Saturday. Well done! We wish the injured NICHOLAS CONDON a speedy recovery! CARN THE RATS - CELEBRATING 50 YEARS IN 2014!!!
