***** COMMENT ***** Hey guys, got a few articles this week for you, as usual the deadline is Wednesday 1pm and please send it to comment@gairrhydd. Just to reaffirm that for these articles please make sure the bulk of it is opinion/a comment on the topic - if theres too much description it just makes it a news article so it would be fab if you could bring your own analysis & commentary into it! - FOR & AGAINST (620 words) Russel Brand has once again been in the news for his continued views on politics, newsnight appearances and his youtube channel Trews. Is he a viable political voice that should be listened to, or just a comedian wading into territory he has no standing to comment on - BRITISH TROOPS LEAVE AFGHANISTAN (750-800 words) This like the Pistorius one last week is a big one. Wed like quite a reflective piece on it, the war out there, and what this means going forward for both Britain in the Middle East and for Afghanistan. Weve left this description quite broad because were happy for you to have your own take on it - Dapper Laughs Tour (700-750 words) The vine & tv show star who has gained notoriety for promoting lad culture and objectifying women is currently going on tour. He has been booked into performing at Cardiff SU which is quite hypocritical as the SU take a strong stance on lad culture and implementing the zero tolerance policy. A piece on the SU doing this and what acts should/shouldnt perform at the union. - FCKH8 & FEMINISM VIDEO (700-750 words) So for those that havent seen, an organisation has released a feminist video which uses girls under the age of ten swearing and using bad language for a good cause. Its caused quite a lot of shock for both using young girls saying inappropriate language and being a for-profit charity that uses the video to promote buying their products, somewhat undermining the message. This can be tied into Movembers recent statement saying that men are victim to being ignored about their health & that women live longer than men -saying their is gender inequality towards men in health (goo.gl/phfYJt) Would be great to have your take on using young girls in that way and whether it sends a good message. The video is here:
