Anyway, Buhari/Idiagbon saved Nigeria from total economic collapse after a warning was sounded by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo in a public letter to the then president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari. With courage, the govt of Buhari enacted laws that brought sanity to Nigeria. The govt held public office holders accountable, those found guilty of abuse of office were tried and jailed. The regime went toe to toe with the united states and Ronald Reagan govt by banning the importation of American wheat, because Ronald Regan government wanted to use Nigeria as a drug dumping ground to raise funds to further facilitate the destabilization of Daniel Ortegas government in Nicaragua. The ban led to the crash of prices of American wheat and loss for American wheat farmers. Buhari/Idiagbon regime refused to borrow money from the IMF and world bank because of the conditions attached to the loan, especially the devalution of the naira which was meant to reduce Nigerians standard of living. Though Buhari/Idiagbons regime was short lived, it was regarded as one of the best military regimes Nigeria ever had. During the regime, workers productivity in the public sector went up.
