COMMUNICATIONS ADVISE FOR OUR TRAVELERS • Smart phones generally work OK in Bhutan. Telstra and Optus both support global roaming provided you are already on a plan, but the network coverage isnt terrific. Pre-paid credit subscribers will be unable to access global roaming. Other Telco’s may not allow your phone to work so please contact your Telco for the latest advice before you leave. • Local SIM Cards are available from a SIM counter in the post office (to the right of the terminal exit door) at Paro Airport. You can purchase and activate local SIM cards in your devices (you may need help as it is often necessary to call the local Telco HELP line for SIM activation). The cost for the SIM is about US$2.00 plus call credits. • WIFI - generally works OK in WIFI zones but slowly as signal strength is often weak. WIFI is offered for free in most hotels except in some parts of eastern Bhutan where WIFI is still not available. The WIFI will probably be accessible about 60% of the time due to network disruptions. Some hotels levy a small fee for WIFI and most will levy a fee if you use the hotel PC’s in their business centre. • If you can avoid sending large files/images etc., and lower your connectivity expectations, you won’t be disappointed • Charging – electricity runs at 220/240 volts so if you want to charge anything take an adapter.
