COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE FORUM OF FORMER STATE OFFICERS AND CHAPTER CHAIRMEN OF PDP IN UYO SENATORIAL DISTRICT ON THE ESTABLISHED ROTATIONAL PRINCIPLE FOR AKWA IBOM NORTH EAST (UYO) SENATORIAL SEAT. INTRODUCTION: We, members of the above name forum have, after due deliberation on the need to respect a rotational principle, for the purpose of peace, justice, equity and fair-play in Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District do resolved as follows: 1. We stand by an earlier communique issued and signed by Elders of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District in 2011 which re-affirmed our long established culture of a single tenure for each Senator in our Senatorial District. 2. We agreed that the established principle of justice, equity, and fair-play for Uyo Senatorial District must be uphold, even in the forthcoming 2015 Senatorial election. 3. We recall with interest that it was the result of this single tenure arrangement that led to the rotation of the Senatorial seat from Etinan Federal Constituency (represented by Senator Effiong Bob) to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency (now represented by Senator Ita Enang). 4. In furtherance of this rotational principle and considering the need to promote justice, equity and fair-play, the forum overwhelmingly support the rotation of Akwa Ibom North Senatorial seat from Ibiono Ibom Local Government in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency to Uruan Local Government in Uyo Federal Constituency. 5. In view of the need to have effective representation, we hereby endorse Rt. Hon. Bassey Etim from Uruan, a former member of the House of Representative to represent Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District come 2015, because of his experience in the National Assembly matters and commitment to offer of employment to Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Federal ministries, agencies and parastatals. 6. The forum condemn in strong terms any attempt by any greedy person or group of persons to promote a sit-tight Senator and rob the people of the Akwa Ibom North East senatorial District of the benefit that will be spread across the grassroots come 2015. 7. We believe that the more Senators we have, the greater our political clout, as the more Senators we produce, the more bargaining powers we have in National issues. 8. We believe in periodical constituency briefing by our Senator, and have resolved not to support a senator that is totally detached from the electorate any longer. 9. We support the effort of Mr. President, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to tackle terrorism and bring peace to Nigeria. We hereby urged him to re-contest for a second term to complete his constitutional tenure and justify the principle of justice, equity and fair-play which was established by our former elected presidents. In conclusion, the forum believed that experience is the guiding light for effective representation, but this experience we strongly recommend must go alongside with accountability.
