ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Under supervision, performs a variety of specialized and general clerical tasks. Posts information on records or documents. Reviews and maintains files and other records. Prepares files for microfiche and operates office equipment. Greets and directs the public, answers a high volume of phones; refers callers to appropriate individuals and community agencies and takes complete messages. Makes appointments and transmits messages. Sorts and delivers mail. Orders office supplies and maintains records of supplies. Regular attendance is an essential job function. Performs other related duties as assigned. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation required. One year of responsible clerical experience performing a variety of clerical tasks. Experience in word processing is required; knowledge of Windows and Windows Applications (Microsoft Word and Excel) and QuickBooks is desirable. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; business correspondence; record management; and proper English usage (spelling, grammar, and punctuation) is required. Must be able to perform data entry accurately. Ability to organize, coordinate, and maintains the confidentiality of paperwork. Ability to operate a personal computer. Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, public, and other agency representatives. A written test of clerical abilities and a data entry test will be administered. Division management will establish and implement screening criteria to comparatively and fairly evaluate the qualifications of all applicants, based on the application materials submitted, test results and the needs of the Division. Only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Division will be invited for an interview appraisal. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, an acceptable driving record and a reliable insured vehicle is required. The supplemental questionnaire is required with the application for this position. Those applicants who do not complete the application form and supplemental questionnaire may be disqualified. This is a grant -funded position. Continuation of employment is dependent upon continued funding. The Community Development Commission is a participant of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). All eligible employees will be enrolled in the applicable retirement benefit formula, subject to the Public Employees’ Retirement Law (PERL) and the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA). The vesting period for the retirement benefit is five years. Employees hired after January 1, 2013 who: have never been a CalPERS member, is not eligible for CalPERS reciprocity, or has a break in service greater than 6 months (aka “New Member”), shall be enrolled in the CalPERS benefit formula of 2% at 62 and pay the 7% member contribution. Employees hired after January 1, 2013 who: are current members of a CalPERS agency, or an agency with CalPERS reciprocity, or have a break in service of 6 months or less (aka “Classic Member”) shall be enrolled in the CalPERS benefit formula of 2% at 60 and pay 2.5% of the 7% member contribution. It is important to note that if a member has a break in service of more than six months but returns to service with the same employer, the member would be considered a “Classic Member.” Successful applicants must complete a thorough background investigation,including a fingerprint search Examples of disqualifying factors discovered during this investigation include: any felony convictions, job related misdemeanor convictions, certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (four (4) or more moving violations within the last two years; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence), poor employment history, substance abuse, and anyone on probation. I understand that a criminal background check is required by law.
