COMMUNITY REACH ACTIVITY (SAY NO TO POLYBAGS) The Millennium School, Karnal believes in following the revolutionized paradigms of education. Today education does not restrict itself only to the classroom. The brain must be educated through the hand. Given the current social milieu and erosion of values, it has become imperative for schools to inculcate in students, not just academic excellence, but also life skills, values and attitudes which go a long way in honing their social outlook and help them live in harmony with others. Empathy and value inculcation is the need of the hour and students should now be conscientious enough to be sensitive towards their society. Augmentation of values starts from home; is followed up by the school and moves on to the community, thereby spreading its roots throughout the society and embracing the planet as a whole. The relationship between an individual and the community is intimate. It plays an important role in the development of one’s identity and determines the level of security that a child enjoys. It is essential that students grow up with a compassionate attitude towards Planet Earth. Therefore, keeping the holistic development of students in mind, Class- VIII gathered to reach out to spread awareness on saying ‘NO TO POLYBAGS’ consciously. The students reached out to many families and discussed about the concerns and explained to them about the impact of polybag usage on environment and flora and fauna of our land. The activity conducted identified the concerns related to plastic bag use, the work that can be done in this regard within the community, and the potential solutions that can be identified to control it. Our students asked the public about their carry bag use habits, their understanding of bag related issues, and gauge their concern about environmental impacts of bags and got their feedbacks on sheets with a pledge to practice 4-R Principle( REUSE,RECYCLE,REDUCE and RECOVER) in their lives. This community reach has made it clear that plastic bags constitute a serious environmental and health hazard and not many are aware about it. Wanting to know what they thought about a Polybag ban it was deduced that the overwhelming majority were positive. The children made sure that all those who came in contact with them had to start thinking today To be able to Change our Tomorrows.
