COMMUNITY RELEASES 2000 HECTARES TO OGSG FOR AGRIC. PURPOSES Effort of the Ogun State government to improve its agricultural sector for enhanced food production and industrialisation has got another boost as the Ogboore Community in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State has released a total of 2000 hectares land for agricultural practice. The traditional ruler of the town, Oba Temitayo Ogunbowale made the position of his people known when the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun led a government delegation to his palace. According to Oba Ogunbowale, the decision was his people’s “widow’s mite” to the government’s aspiration to give agricultural production in the State a lift, emphasising that his town that was well known for cassava cultivation was ready to collaborate with government to grow other farm produce. “Our main crop here is cassava, our people cherish their land and they take care of it even as they plant and harvest cassava. But this will not be a constraint because my people are ready to fully support the government and welcome new ideas”, Ogunbowale said. Responding, the Commissioner commended residents of the community for buying into the vision of government on agricultural development, assuring that the land mass would be used strictly for agricultural purposes. Mrs. Sokefun also expressed enthusiasm that the gesture would engender greater development as it would attract more investors in the agricultural sector, infrastructural growth and enhance employment opportunities amongst others. “Wherever the government dwells, development is bound to happen because it will attract more investors. Investors in a community will readily provide employment for the youths and improve social-economic standards”, she said. She therefore enjoined indigenes of other communities in the State to take a cue from the Ogboore community and collaborate with government as it aspires to enhance standard of living.
