COMMUNITY RESILIENCE MEETING IN UIST A meeting to discuss how communities can better prepare for emergencies such as severe weather, power failure and wild fires is being held at Balivanich Hall on Wednesday 6th November at 7:30pm. The Community Resilience meeting is part of a series of meetings to be held in communities across the Western Isles. Speakers will be from the Scottish Government Resilience Division and the Comhairle’s Emergency Planning section. Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, Charlie Nicolson, said: “Communities in the Western Isles are already pretty resilient and people are used to helping out in emergency situations. However, it will be of benefit to communities and individuals to harness local resources and expertise to help themselves in an emergency, in a way that complements the response of the emergency services. It works well in other rural areas in Scotland and in Scandinavian Countries where the idea came from.” Under the scheme, communities are provided with an Emergency Plan template and support although they retain ownership. All community groups and interested residents are invited to attend the meeting in Uist.
