COMPARE .. EVALUATE .. JUDGE ^_^ Before I buy a high dollar book on-line or at the comic shop, I think it’s a good idea to find examples of the book and make comparisons. With all the photos available on-line it’s not that hard to find several examples of almost any book. Heck, you can even find “certified” photos. :P [ CGC, CBCS, PGX ] If you are working from photos … take a little time and put the photos side by side using MSPaint, Photoshop, or a free photo tool on line. You can pick out a lot of discrepancies doing a side by side comparison. [In the pic attached] I thought I would take a known trimmed book [purple CGC trimmed on 3 sides] and compare it to 2 books CGC says are not trimmed. I hope the photo shows how the trimmed edges look sharp / even … and on the other books you can see the interior pages do not line up perfectly with the cover [and vise versa]. Some books have only the cover trimmed. Some collectors use a ruler and measure the book. This is a good idea, but keep in mind that [with Silver Age for example] a 1/16th of an inch would not be a big variance from one book to the other … even though they might be from the same print run. A trimmed edge might look *Too* straight / sharp … or too clean with no defects or tanning compared to the other edges. Two things to keep in mind … 1) If the edge looks too clean, too perfect, it might have been trimmed. … and 2) All the good looking hookers are cops. :P Troll Disclaimer: This idea is not perfect and does not always work. Yes, you can find production run books that look trimmed but were not. I would not normally compare CGC to CGC, or graded books to graded books. I’m doing this in the picture for example only because it is a known trimmed book. And yes, there are some hookers who are attractive. Like your troll mother. ^_^ [joking! come on Graviton, lighten up]
