COMPASSIONATE MINISTRY: (New Life In Christ Series). Training Objectives: * For the new Christian to be able to be obedient to the Word of God. * For the new Christian to be able to know fully and understand what obedience entails and how it can be applied in our daily lives. Bible Study 09: (Obedience). *A* Obedience seems like like such an authoritarian concept. Does God really require absolute obedience? - Gods demand for obedience is based on His commitment to our well being. (Colossians 2:6-7). - Disobedience is sin and leads to separation from God. (Ephesians 5:6). - Jesus Christ is our model for obedience even when obedience meant suffering. (Philippians 2:5-13, Hebrews 5:7-9). *B* Does obedience to God get me into Heaven? - Obedience to religious laws can never save us. But when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of our lives, we are increasingly motivated to obey God out of love for Him and not out of duty as what most local church fellowships and denominations seem to encourage. (Galatians 2:16-21). - Our obedience to Christ is to be an expression of love. (John 14:15-16, 21-24). - Obedience is anchored in faith. (Hebrews 11:7-10). *C* What if i have lived a life of disobedience? - It is never too late to repent and obey God. (Mathew 21:28-31). Activity: - Share in brief your personal testimony with him. The testimony must the following: Your life before Christ, how you came to Christ and your life after Christ. - What do yo do on a daily basis that is helping you to live a live of daily obedience to the Word of God. - Can you encourage the new Christian to follow one or two of those scriptural based activities in a bid to strengthen him or her and to help him or her grow spiritually. * Please forgive me for using the masculine most of the time. There are no speciaI reasons for it. I do it in a bid to recduce the character of letters in these messages. Otherwise, i am not being gender insensitive. I believe in the uplifting of the social position of women in Christianity. I am believing God that one day i will see a good number of them occupying such high positions like bishops, archbishops and not just pastors and a few overseers. If we as a church follow discipleship principles as guided by the Scriptures we will get there. How does it work? Sorry, this is another topic. You esablish a new convert in the Word of God until he or she is a disciple. Then equip the disciple until he or she becomes a disciple maker. You give further training to very few remaining from makers of disciples until they become leaders. It is from this group that you can appoint top leadership from irrespective of whether they are women or not. The process takes years i must say but if we as the local church start today, my dream will be fulfilled. Thank you beloved for being understanding. I love you all and will forever do. Grace, peace and joy be with you all. End of Bible Study Lesson 09.
