CON Z SHAKE UP THE RULING CLASSES AS THEY STORM TO SECOND SPOT (Match Reports 18 12 20140 Its been a good pre-Christmas run in for the Z Team, 12 points from three games catapulting them into second place in the League. Symons for the Z Team was in fine fettle and brimming with confidence after his majestic performance last week but failed to dominate this game against a tough opponent Rob Neal, but produced sufficient quality to eventually take the first frame. Hall for the Z Team had a much easier ride against a strangely lack-lustre Wilkinson who despite one or two stunning pots could only manage 16 to Halls 49. Jago, the C Team’s captain tried in vain to regain some parity, but he was up against a steady performer in McKechnie, and was never really in the game. Three Nil to the Z Team. John Dodd for the Z Team almost made hard work of his frame against Whiley but eventually came good with the best score of the night, 69 points. The final frame of the evening was a mere formality with Fitzsimmons on form again, after a shaky start to the season, against Cath Friend who struggled to get a foothold in the game. The first 5-0 victory in the Z Team’s brief but illustrious and often notorious history. (By Brian Palmer) West Devon C continued on their merry winning ways with a good win over a dangerous West Devon D outfit. Pinkney (25) had no difficulty in taking the C Team one up with an unencumbered win over Decieco, backed up with yet another win from the fast improving Williams over Hooper. Murton struck back for the D Team with a solid win against Grigg to give his side some hope of salvaging the match. This was not to be though, Hodge saw to that as he racked up his fifth win out of six games, this time at the expense of a wilting Shoulders. A consolation frame came for the D Team with a hard fought win for Shrimpton (Junior) over the effervescent Mr Elliott curtesy of the final black. Three wins on the trot now for West Devon C sees them put ‘clear water’ between them and bottom spot, and also sees them ‘leapfrog’ West Devon D in the process.
