CONCEPT OF GYAN ( Knowledge ) Acquisition of worldly knowledge is a noble cause. One who has the knowledge and awareness about what is what, is known to be knowledgeable, which term, in vernacular, is called Gyani. But have we ever contemplated the true meaning of the word Gyani ? Its a common observation that if you talk to anyone about a particular topic, he, most often, says that he already knows it. In other words, one generally claims to be a Gyani. Who does not know that drinking and smoking is injurious to health, that indulging in an evil act, such as steeling, rape, killing an innocent or the like, is harmful. But the irony is that knowing everything, one acts against the advice. Gurbani teaches us that one must try to liberate oneself by taking the advice from the Gurus word. In a holy hymn, Guru Arjan Devji says - Har rus peevo bhai ll naam japo naamai aaaraadho Gur pooray ki sharnaayi (Drink in the sublime essence of the Lord, O sibling of Destiny. Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; worship the Naam in adoration, and enter the Sanctuary of the Perfect Guru).
