Madhu Singh of MK Singh Law Office Takes Top Honors, Celebration Recognizing Winners May 8 at Museum of Flight, Boeing Field SEATTLE – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 2014 Washington Women-Owned Business Champion is Madhu Singh, principal of MK Singh Law Office – now Foundry Law Group – in Seattle. The SBA Women-Owned Business Champion Award recognizes individuals who advocate for and increase business opportunities for women above and beyond the call of their professional duties. “On average, less than 40 percent of small businesses are owned by women,” said Nancy Porzio, SBA Seattle district director. “Our agency provides services specific to female entrepreneurs, but we can’t do it alone. We rely on partners like Madhu Singh who passionately advocate for and assist women-owned small businesses.” When she’s not growing her business and intellectual property practice, Singh volunteers her time as the president of the Women’s Business Exchange, a local non-profit organization that provides women with opportunities for learning, leadership and networking. In addition, she provides legal guidance and instructional courses to businesses and nonprofits at local entrepreneurship clinics. Singh co-teaches at the Seattle University Community Development and Entrepreneurship Clinic co-hosted by the Law School and Albers School of Business. Here she facilitates a clinic-style course that provides MBA and law students with an opportunity to work with real clients from the community. These clients range from microenterprises to growth companies, including past SBA national award winners. “Im honored to have received this award, which to me is a recognition of the great progress we can make when innovative thinkers work together. I look forward to continuing to partner with local entrepreneurs and small businesses to keep laying the groundwork for long-term growth and success, both individually and as a collaborative business community. The SBA 2014 Washington Women-Owned Business Champion was recognized at a local awards ceremony event May 8 in conjunction with National Small Business Week May 12-16. “National Small Business Week is a time to recognize the impact small business has on our country,” said SBA Regional Administrator Calvin Goings. “It’s a chance to celebrate the dedicated, hard-working small business owners who are making a difference in their communities.” Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week. SBA recognizes outstanding small business owners for their personal successes and contributions to our nation.
