CONGRATULATIONS MITCH !!! INDIANAPOLIS — Former South Knox and IUPUI basketball player Mitch Patton has inked his first professional playing contract and will begin his career with Michelin Etha Engomis in Engomi, Cyprus. The 6-9 center is expected to leave on Sept. 19. “I’m excited about the opportunity to continue playing,” Patton said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I can remember and now it’s a reality. I’m extremely excited.” Patton closed his collegiate career with 938 points in 117 games (8.0 points per game), shooting 51 percent. He also blocked 88 shots in his IUPUI career, putting him fifth on the school’s all-time list. The center averaged a team-high 13.7 points and 5.0 boards per game his junior year before netting 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game a season ago. He was named All-Summit League by multiple publications following his junior year and opened his senior year by being picked Summit League Player of the Week after registering 26 points and 10 boards at Utah Valley on Nov. 8. He scored 27 points on two occasions and finished with six career double-doubles. Patton led South Knox to back-to-back Class 2A sectional championships in 2009 and 2010. He was named Sun-Commercial Player of the Year his senior season after averaging 19.5 points on 62 percent shooting, 12.4 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots per game Etha was founded in 1942 and competes in the Cypriot League with games running from late-October through mid-March. In addition, Etha also competed in the EuroChallenge last season.
