CONGRESS-PRESIDENT-OF-KERALA-> V/S >-CONGRESS-GOVERNMENMT-KERALA @ BAR-LINCENCE ))))))))))) : The differences between Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy over the renewal of licences of 418 liquor bars, currently shut down because of poor standards, came out in the open at the party-government coordination committee meeting here on Wednesday. The committee met twice during the course of the day to discuss the issue, but failed to arrive at a consensus. The meeting witnessed the worst division in the party, with Mr. Sudheeran turning out to be the sole opponent to the government proposal on renewal of liquor bar licences and the other 12 committee members throwing their weight behind Mr. Chandy. Sudheeran-Chandy tiff At one point of time, Mr. Sudheeran and Mr. Chandy locked horns, with the latter openly stating that the former was trying to impose a decision on the government instead of utilising the party-government coordination committee meeting to bring about a consensus on policies. Mr. Sudheeran, however, was not prepared to budge from his position. He said there was nothing new in his decades-old stand against liquor. Any shift in his stand would be misinterpreted, he said. At the end of the day, it became clear that it would be quite difficult for the Congress party to untie the new knot that has appeared in the party since the induction of Mr. Sudheeran as KPCC chief.
