CONNECTING THE DOTS #1 March 12, 2013 Professional careers such as teaching, law, journalism, politics, banking, are ruining, in the public’s consciousness, the respect that used to be given to the career endeavors. It is not clear why anyone would want to do anything to destroy the respect for their own career choice. The newspaper and other media are losing readers and the profession is slowly going into a protracted decline. Too many school districts now have the reputation of graduating secondary students who are not able to read, write or do simple math. Law has earned the reputation not for helping their clients to a fair trial but for helping their clients avoid the consequences of the defendant’s illegal activity. Congress now has the public’s lowest job rating of any American Congress in history! Why have these professions been given such low ratings and more importantly, are the ratings really earned? The 2010 Census determined that the USA population was 308,745,538 people. [ref. American Census bureau data]. The American Bar Association reports that as of June 2006, there were 1,116,967 lawyers in America that had passed the bar exam. This data means that there are just 276 citizens for every lawyer in America [308,745,538 / 1,116,967 = 276]. This number is not high enough to allow all lawyers to have their own practice. The number of lawyers in other districts is known. The Washington, DC Bar Association reported this month that the association grows by 2000 lawyers per year. The average yearly income is $262,900 and the average yearly household income is $371,400. The bar association reported that the average market value of their homes is $886,500. The net worth of 48% of the association members is greater than one million dollars. There are 2,120 law firms in Washington DC and each firm has an average of 108 lawyers per firm [Washington DC Bar Association data]. The numbers tell us that [2120 x 108 = 228,960] lawyers in the Washington DC metro area. Dividing the number of DC lawyers by the total American lawyers reported by the ABA gives the percent of American lawyers working in Washington, DC. 228,960 / 1,116,967 = 0.204 . That is, more than 20% of all American lawyers are in Washington, DC. The Washington DC population, measured in the 2010 census, is 617, 996 people. This data is reported in the internet [Wikipedia]. The number of Washington DC residents per lawyer is [617,996 divided by 228,960] equals 2.69 people per lawyer. The Washington Metro area has a population of 5.3 million people. 5.3 million residents divided by 228,960 lawyers gives 23.1 people per lawyer. The 2.69 and the 23.1 people per lawyer numbers are not enough for each lawyer to have a successful law practice. How, then, do so many lawyers have such enormous income? Are there too many lawyers in Washington, DC? INFORMED CONSENT The Declaration of Independence states that government exists by consent of the governed which is true. However, that requires that it is informed consent of the governed that is needed to give government a validity. Therefore, it is necessary to find some way to be informed in order to give consent. There are ways to find information in order to be adequately informed. That is the reason why the media, both print and most broadcast, have been bought and then controlled by those who do NOT want voters to be adequately informed. What we think can be controlled by what we are allowed to read or hear. Most people tend to believe what they think even if the belief is based on lies or what was believed in past elections. People find it difficult to admit to themselves that they made a mistake in previous elections. So how do we find the information sources that can allow us to give informed consent? Those who do not want the voters to be informed make an effort to discredit any information sources that might be telling the truth. The phrase you cant trust the internet emails to be true is only partially true. There are sources on the internet whose function is to give accurate, true information. Some of those sources are the Heritage Foundation, the free publication IMPRIMIS from Hillsdale College. We need to be proactive in finding sources of information that we can trust. There are many others that exist, but we do have to make an effort to find them. The future existence of America depends on our ability to give informed consent. DEFEAT THE BEAST Defeat the Beast is central to every challenge in our lives. Human character that allows us to accept failure, that wants to give up, give in, take the easy way out and finally fall prey to the destroyers, can and must be defeated. Defeating the Beast is to prevail against those who would destroy us. It is a lifelong battle to defeat the Beast that confronts us in every part of America and our lives. Our forebears showed us all by their actions that the Beast can be defeated, that America and our way of life are worth fighting and even dying for. The Beast wants us to give in to problems, to avoid taking responsibility, take the easy way, ridicule anyone who believes in America and the Constitution, and refuse to make any effort to know. The Beast wants us to believe what we are allowed to read, to not make any effort to recognize the lies of the Beast. Our war is not against the individuals who follow the Beast but must be against the powers that create and feed the Beast. Those who create, feed and worship the Beast are the real enemy. We are watched by our forebears who gave their lives for our and America’s tomorrow. “For your tomorrow, we gave our today”. Dennis Weber Are There Too Many Lawyers Associate Justice Antonin Scalia has served on he Supreme Court for more than 20 years. His opinions in cases on reproductive rights, gun control, and education have made him one of the most controversial justices. You’ve said that there are too many lawyers in the U.S. Why do you think that? “I don’t mean to criticize lawyers, just the need for so many lawyers Lawyers don’t dig ditches or build buildings. When a society requires such a large number of its best minds to conduct the unproductive enterprise of the law, something is wrong with the legal system.” What are the most common mistakes that lawyers make? “In written arguments, it’s verbosity. Brevity is crucial. In oral arguments, it’s the inability or unwillingness to answer a question. I’m always amazed at how many people fight you when you ask a question, how many will not give a “yes” or “no” answer. And if the legal counsel does a bad job, the court will do a bad job. Judges are dependent on lawyers to bring out the facts.” Is there a role for politics in our legal system? “None whatever. The absolute worst violation of the judge’s oath is to decide a case based on a partisan political or philosophical basis, rather than what the law requires. . These 10 people decide which bills are allowed to come before the Senate for discussion and a vote. Six of the 10 are from the majority party and four are from the minority party. Of the 10 people, one person, the majority party leader, has the power to decide which bills are allowed to come before the Senate for discussion and a vote. That one person’s power decides and thus controls all the legislation that may be sent to the President for his signature. There is a large backlog of bills passed by the House and then sent to the Senate for consideration. Those bills are refused to be considered by just one person, the majority leader. He is the closest thing to a dictator that exists in American government. Any senator who objects and tries to do something to alter the Majority Leader’s decision does so at his peril. The data show that it makes no difference if the political party that controls the Senate is Republican or Democrat. The Senate leadership is always an over whelming group of lawyers. The lawyer culture controls the Senate and controls the United States government and the United States. There are 100 senators in the Senate. In every case, Democrat or Republican, about 60% of the Senate membership is lawyers. Sixty percent is sufficient to stop any legislation that the lawyer culture does not want passed? Tort reform has been suggested for years, but nothing is done because Tort Reform will reduce the lawyer culture’s income. The House leadership and membership are less controlled by the lawyer culture and so, remain in the 30 to 40 percent range. The bills passed by the House reflect more nearly the citizen’s vote. Even when the citizen’s vote is not to the lawyer culture’s approval, lawsuits are used to overturn the voter’s decision. Thus, America does not have government by legislation, America has government by litigation. It is much easier for special interests to help elect and control just 6 men in the Senate leadership than it is to elect and control the much larger House membership. This is why the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution so that Federal Senators were to be elected by the membership of the state’s legislatures. It is much more difficult for special interests and the lawyer culture to control the decisions of 50 state’s legislatures than to control the few men who are the Senate Leadership. The United States has more lawyers per capita than any other country in the world!! The lawyer culture also controls more of the American culture than just the government. The lawyer culture situation has reached the point where many newly minted attorneys intend to enter politics and do not intend to develop a private law practice. Before 1959, the American Bar Association forbid its members to advertise directly to the general public. This was done because their training is uniquely able to cause dissension and lawsuits. Witness the huge increase in TV ads advocating calling a lawyer to start a law suit. In 1959, attorneys sued to have the rule abolished and the Supreme Court agreed. As of 2013, the United States government, including the Senate, White House and Supreme Court all have attorneys in control. The bureaucracy is also loaded with lawyers. They all know where the money is located. All of the Congressional Data were obtained from the publication “Congress at Your Fingertips”. I have all the issues of Congress At Your Fingertips from the 108 to the 113 Congresses. I highly recommend the publications for information on any Congress.
