CONSERVANCIES RANGERS DIGEST ON SECURITY It is sky blue clear and obvious our conservancies rangers have proved to be something and the ones we fall to in cases of insecurity incidences. They have requested to be referred as rangers but not scouts owing to the fact that courtesy of Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) they have undergone training at KWS Manyani Camp like other conventional game and KWS rangers. Majority of these conservancies rangers are pulled from hardened community young people that have experience with inter community clashes as a result of cattle rustling and are physically fit enough and endowed with skills to fit their responsibilities up to task. Some are even reformed bandits/poachers now leading a decent life and earning a living as a result of getting recruited. These combinations offers a fully fledged bush savvy force with impeccable ability to quell any insecurity issues happening in their areas of jurisdiction. The formation of click teams in Samburu 9-1 and Isiolo 9-2 picking the best rangers in NRT conservancies have seen far reaching enhancement of upping the ante of security for wildlife and Samburu and Isiolo communities, thanks to NRT for this noble initiative. Conservancies have modelled a good unity coming together to offer security and intervening in any situation that stifle peace in the areas of their jurisdictions. Their combination with Police when needed and coming under the command of Isiolo or Samburu OCPD depending with where -- Isiolo / Samburu-- they are launching an offensive has resulted to structured and organized command seeing their missions a success. OCPDs are the ones offering conservancies rangers modern automated guns and periodic top up of munitions when a conservancy apply for, and thus a need to submit to his command when a need arises. The OCPD too has express rights to disarm a conservancy ranger in case of a breach of set guidelines. Today, conservancies rangers have become more important to OCPDs commands. Even with establishment of new conservancies in the North Sub County, peace and harmony has been realized in the once intra-communities violence hotbed. Apart from wildlife conservation conservancies are now the axis of regional security, peace and harmony. In this light from today let us refer our scouts as rangers and encourage them for their good work. Type KUDOS.
