COP Calls for Dialogue in Dispute Over Seismic Testing Ramadhar: “We must achieve an integrated management framework that is acceptable to all stakeholders” CHARLIEVILLE – Congress of the People (COP) Political Leader Prakash Ramadhar called for a constructive dialogue in the ongoing row between fishermen and the energy sector over offshore seismic testing associated with oil and gas development. Anti-testing activists were detained by police during recent demonstrations in what has become an increasingly tense dispute. “We must achieve an integrated management framework that is acceptable to all stakeholders,” said Ramadhar. “Energy development and environmental conservation are not mutually exclusive goals.” “Resolving this issue will require dialogue among the diverse group of stakeholders,” Ramadhar continued. “I am confident that with the right leadership, we can reach an agreement that is favorable to all parties.” Ramadhar added that he and other COP leaders were willing to convene a forum where stakeholders could air their concerns, and work together in good faith to reach a middle ground. “Our party has always believed in the need to resolve complex issues by seeking consensus and compromise,” concluded Ramadhar. “I am hopeful that we can begin to take steps toward such a consensus in the coming days.”
