COPAR’s open-pit mine is a “heavy industry” that crushes - TopicsExpress

COPAR’s open-pit mine is a “heavy industry” that crushes granite to make asphalt pebbles. The “tons” of granite dust emitted from its rock crushers, and uncovered waste piles are 90% CRYSTALLINE SILICA (a.k.a. quartz, or silicon). CRYSTALLINE SILICA, same as CRYSTALLINE ASBESTOS, kills lung cells, and eventually causes lung cancer. Because of their courage, many good people are now “aware” of COPAR’s “residential area” mine. (Located in the middle of a “wetland”, no less.) The neighbors of COPAR continue to PUSHBACK against the IGNORANT (those who do not know what they speak of) by educating them with FACTS. But in addition to “ignorance”, the neighbors must also deal with few, but powerful, “decision-makers” who “lack integrity”. In other words, they are “self-serving cowards” posing as “leaders”- a.k.a. timid politicians and their appointed cronies. (It is what it is). Comments on Facebook, and those posted on Twitter (@westerlytownfan), have embarrassed our local and state incumbents. “Facts” have also proven that RIDEM is at worst “corrupt”, and at best “incompetent”. (More likely, it’s a combination of both). I can say that because after becoming aware of the dangers of breathing TOXIC SILICA DUST, our incumbents, and RIDEM, have done nothing but DELAY, DENY, and DEFER the shutdown of COPAR. In opinion, the problem we are facing is TOXIC LEADERSHIP. TOXIC LEADERSHIP traits: Corrupt – the toxic leader lies, cheats, or steals. To a degree that exceeds the norm, they put self-interest ahead of the public interest. Incompetent – the toxic leader lacks the will or skill (or both) to sustain effective action. Usually they take the “easy way out”, making excuses or blaming others for their ineptness. Evil – the toxic leader commits atrocities, or allows them to happen through inaction. The harm can be physical, psychological, or both. Insular – the toxic leader minimizes, or disregards, the health and welfare of those outside their group. Callous – the leaders are uncaring or unkind. Ignore and discount the needs, wants, and wishes of others. Rigid – the leader is arrogant and unyielding. They are unwilling to adapt to new ideas or new information. The CURE for TOXIC LEADERSHIP and COWARDLY behavior is this: MAKE GOOD PEOPLE “AWARE” BY SPEAKING OUT.
