CORD lawyers are now embarrassing themselves again by saying that Attorney General, Prof Githu Muigai, is in office irregularly. The lawyers who are avid fanatics of faded Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, said the AG, who is serving under the new Constitution, was neither vetted nor approved by Parliament when he was appointed to serve in the new Jubilee government. One of the members of the committee of experts who is still at pains for Raila Odinga losing the last election conceded the existence of “some small anomaly” in the appointment of Githu Muigai as AG. “The AG has no security of tenure and no work contract because under the new arrangement the holder is meant to be a member of the Cabinet. What is glaring, though, is that he should have been re-nominated by President Uhuru,” the member said. The official who requested anonymity said this is a dangerous mistake by the Jubilee Government since his name was supposed to be re-submitted for vetting and approved by the President. He said Githu was vetted by former President Mwai Kibaki’s regime and he should be vetted again if he is to serve in the Jubilee administration. According to Article 157 of the Constitution, Githu has an eight year-non renewable term and CORD lawyers are only embarrassing themselves barely a week after their counterpart Kethi Kilonzo was embarrassed in broad light by the Jubilee administration.
