CORRECTION ON THIS POST: "The plan also proposes to phase-in $2 million per year from the Water/Wastewater Utilities to provide additional base funding for paved roadways." STRATEGIC PLAN ACTION: INVESTING IN ROADS TO CONTINUED PROSPERITY The latest results of the Civic Services survey show road conditions are the most important issue facing the City. The survey reflects strong support for an additional public investment for maintaining city roadways. Survey results also demonstrate the demand for enhanced street sweeping, pothole repairs, and snow and ice clearing services. “We know the citizens of Saskatoon are calling for enhanced services,” City Manager Murray Totland says. “To answer that demand, the Administration is proposing a financial plan to invest in better sidewalks, roads and back lanes.” The Administration proposes the options of either a 2.92% optional three-year property tax phase-in, or a phased-in $170 base tax to address the funding gap of $19.8 million. The plan also proposes to phase-in $2 million per year from the Water/Wastewater Utilities to provide additional base funding for paved roadways. “We’ve heard from our citizens and their willingness to invest in what matters to them. We think the proposals we’ve made will help meet their wishes,” Totland says.
