COSADAND KAUSTA CHAIRMAN ON TWO-YEAR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP Press Release: January 22, 2015 Introduction: On January 22, 2015 Smart Baitani, President and Founder of the COSAD Center for Enterprise and Community Development- Tanzania (cosad.org) and the Chairman of the Kagera University Student Association of Tanzania (KAUSTA) David Wilbard met at COSAD Country Head Offices located at Kashura Hills in Bukoba to work on a strategic partnerships that has been in works for the last six months. Firstly, we want to express our deepest appreciation to the KAUSTA Patron Bishop Dr. Method Kilaini for enabling the connection of the two leaders and the members of the Friends of Bukoba (FoB) for providing fertile grounds for an idea of partnerships between the two organizations to blossom. Core Strength: Resources and Statistics: COSAD is an International NGO that is registered both in the USA and Tanzania with offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Calgary, Canada, Dar es Salaam, and country head offices located in Bukoba, Tanzania. COSAD partners with over two dozen international and local institutions around the world to support its mission of empowering communities in Bukoba to become economically independent. Apart from community development programs such as One Woman One Goat, (OWOG), Community Health Awareness Initiatives, (CHAI) BLJ Community Libraries and Resource Centers that are currently going on in the villages of Izigo, Kangabusharo and Kagondo, COSAD runs social enterprise businesses which include: The COSAD Medical Clinic, The Women Cooperative Goat Farm, The Imuka Recording Studio and the Bukoba Business Lounge KAUSTA is a university students association that attracts members from 19 Universities from all over Tanzania. It has over 1030 current active members from Kagera who have signed to volunteer as teachers in Kagera schools teaching science, arts, computer and arts discipline around the region. These volunteer teachers as well as they students will greatly benefit using COSAD Business Lounge—especially its students and career development resource center by accessing the state-of-the-art technology in an environment that nurture and encourage creativity. Potential Areas of Partnerships: Address/Office Space: COSAD has agreed to provide a temporary office space to KAUSTA in Kagera that will be housed within the Business Lounge at the COSAD Country HQ located at Kashura Hills in Bukoba Municipality. Students Study Tours: KAUSTA Volunteer teachers will design a curriculum , coordinate and manage Students Study Tours which will be held at COSAD Business Lounge’s Young Minds & Career Development Center. Study tours will include students from: English Medium School (all Grades) Primary Schools (all Grades) O-level Students High School Students. Teachers Training Colleges. Professional and Career Counseling Services: Using its pool of international volunteers from USA and Canada who are highly specialized in various fields such as medicine, entrepreneurship, psychology, education, marketing, Global & Cultural Competency, etc. COSAD will provide an optional counselling services to all educational stakeholders through KAUSTA. Areas of specialization will include but not limited to public health, women health, career path, business and marketing plan, products development, entrepreneurship, cultural creativity recording and music production, etc. ALL KAUSTA Volunteer Teachers and its members will have access to all COSAD Business Lounge products and services including its conference room, business productivity tools (including iPads, wireless, printing, photocopying, TV/ Educational movies, etc.) at a prescribed/agreed discounted prices. COSAD has invited all KAUSTA volunteers for one day retreat in July 2015 to introduce KAUSTA members to COSAD Staff, partners and its social Enterprise projects including its products and services. The event will including Live Concert featuring various Community Singers and artists who have used and recorded with Imuka Recording Studio. Members of the public will also be invited. Smart P.
