COTE- D’IVOIRE- 142- EXHUMED- BODIES- OF- POST-ELECTION CRISIS VICTIMS IDENTIFIED Azubuike Okeh Abidjan, July 25, 2014 (NAN) The Cote d’Iviore government has announced that forensic experts have identified the bodies of some 142 persons who died during the post-election crisis that rocked the country. Government’s Spokesman, Bruno Kone said in a statement in Abidjan on Friday that out of the number, Death Certificates had been issued for 121 bodies. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Cote d’Iviore was hit by a post-election violence following a disputed election between President Alassane Ouattara and former President Laurent Gbagbo. Reports said several bodies were buried in mass graves in Abidjan and other parts of the country during the crisis, reported to have caused the death of some 3,000 persons. Meanwhile Kone said that the search and exhumation of bodies of people, who died during the crisis, remained on course in different parts of the country. ``We received information on the discovery of some mass graves, the exercise continues, it is part of the move to ensure justice. ``After exhuming and identifying the bodies, the victims are given final burials by their families, we believe it is a good way of according respect to them,’’he said. Kone further said that Ouattara had approved the hiring of foreign experts to expedite the exhumation and identification process. ``With the presidential approval, we are hopeful that all issues concerning exhumation and identification of bodies will be concluded before the end of the year,’’ he said. The government’s spokesman said the Ouattara-led government had taken several strategic steps towards enthroning justice, peace and reconciliation after the political crisis. ``Many detainees have been granted freedom, some property belonging to opposition politicians have been released while some cases are still being tried. ``The government requires the support of the citizenry, it is the collective responsibility of every Ivorian to play a role in the rebuilding process,’’Kone said
