COUNCIL UPDATE ON STREET WORK Good afternoon to all Beerwah Traders and Community Representatives, We are pleased to advise that the end of March will see the completion of all major construction for the project (weather permitting) and Simpson Street returned to ‘normal’ operation. A few outstanding items such as minor additional planting, the installation of some street furniture and the Energex removal of the overhead power lines and poles will extend beyond March however these items are expected to have little impact on Traders and the broader community. Once Energex works are completed new light poles will be installed along Simpson Street. Public artworks will be installed prior to July 2014. Please note the following zone by zone breakdown for works to be completed in your area during March. We will continue to advise you of any changes to the construction schedule via these regular emails and thank you once again for your patience as we complete the last month of streetscape works. MARCH CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE (ZONE BY ZONE) ALL ZONES: Simpson Street asphalt (bitumen) resurfacing – night works over two nights 7.30pm – 6am Sunday 23 March and Monday 24 March The length of Simpson Street (Aldi to Peachester Road intersection) and the extended car park surface in the large car park opposite Aldi will be resealed with asphalt over two nights. In order to minimise inconvenience to Traders and the broader community, works will take place on Sunday and Monday nights as per the following time schedule: • From 7.30pm machinery will be in operation • From 9pm (after most evening Traders close) asphalt will be poured • From approximately 9.30pm a full Simpson Street road closure will be in place. Traffic will be diverted under traffic control. These works will generate mid-level machinery noise including the grinding down of the old road surface, operation of trucks and other machinery, and construction workers. Every effort will be made to mitigate noise impacts however some noise and inconvenience will be unavoidable. Whilst day time car parking will remain available along most locations in Simpson Street, after 5pm as parking becomes vacant, traffic controllers will be closing off car parks in preparation for the asphalt works. Temporary signage will also be in place to advise motorists of the resealing works. We would encourage those Traders working on Sunday and Monday nights to park your vehicles in Turner Street if possible. Line marking Week commencing Monday 24 March Line marking on Simpson Street and in the car park areas will take place shortly after the road resurfacing. These works are expected to happen early in the morning under traffic control and should have little impact on Traders and the broader community. Project site office closure Tuesday 1 April Please note that the project site office will be packed up by Tuesday 1 April. We thank Traders for the warm welcome that you have extended to the team (with a special mention to the food traders for keeping our workers well fed and watered!) ZONE 1 WORKS: Simpson Street (rail side) car park Week commencing Monday 17 March to Week commencing Monday 24 March Landscaping works including the planting of street trees and plants. Week commencing Monday 24 March (day works) A traffic calming device (hump) will be installed on Simpson Street in the area between Aldi and the road entry to the Beerwah Sports Ground. In order to ensure traffic access to Simpson Street the hump will be built in two stages, with one half under construction as traffic passes on the opposite side and then the construction procedure ‘flipped’. Traffic control will be in operation. March (date TBA) As per our previous Trader update, on 12 February Energex prepared the new location for the replacement power pole in the car park. Whilst the delivery and installation of the new power pole was anticipated for 19 February, Energex delays have meant that the team is still awaiting delivery of the pole. We will advise Traders of the rescheduled date as soon as possible but a friendly reminder that this will involve the delivery of the new pole via semi-trailer which will require the temporary use of approximately 18 car parks in the Zone 1 car park.
