COUNTING DOWN 14 DAYS TIL NEW WHO!!!! DW Alien Race of the Day: ICE WARRIORS!!! The Ice Warriors are, without doubt, my absolute favorite alien race of the Whoniverse.... They are Doctor Whos Martians and they are huge....relentless....kind....noble....savage.....cunning....and clever. Their system albeit very warlike at times is very noble and aristocratic. Honor is the watchword of this species and although they have gone astray from the path of good at times, they are very proud beings of their heritage. Mars has been a dead or dying world for a long time in the Whoniverse, and for the most part all of the tangles with the Ice Warriors have been due to their instinctual drive to survive....colonize another planet... Sadly, most of the work in this area has been to take over the Earth....but by the later years they have moved on to colonize other Mars-like worlds and rebuild their civilization....which may have led to them joining in the Galactic Federation.....abandoning their savagery and utilizing their abilities to help other worlds..... One Ice Warrior even became the Doctors companion for a while (comic book stories) There are two very different castes in their society.....the Lords....and the Warriors... The Lords are very lithe suave beings.....persuasive in their sibilant hiss. Their armor is more lightweight and streamlined, and they seem to reserve their fighting to that of swordplay (they do not normally carry the wrist-affixed sonic guns) The Warrior are massive lumbering creatures in thick hard armor, making them slow but nigh unstoppable. They wield all manner of weaponry...from the sonic guns at their wrists, to the larger more devastating sonic cannons... However, even weaponless they can smash spines and crush skulls with the brute force of their bodies.... (You can imagine my geekgasm when Skaldak appeared on screen, i was ready for and yet unprepared for the return of my lovely Greenies. I wasnt happy with EVERYTHING they did...however some of those scenes of him stalking through the submarine gave me chills, and reminded me greatly of the chase scenes on the Moonbase and at the Weather Control Bureau in the Troughton eras SEEDS OF DEATH......and i DO want to see more of them....more and more and more!!!)
