COVENANT CHARGE “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matt 10:16) NKJV This message is important and timely prior to the festivity mode that will soon be activated. Many of us living in the urban areas across the major cities in Nigeria and beyond have been away from family ties, traditions and customs of our land throughout the year and will only come in contact with all of these if we travel home for the Christmas celebration, this is the reason why the HolySpirit is bring this vital warning to all of us. Christmas celebration is good but not at the expense of our spiritual life and salvation. This yearly event usually swallow people’s lives, while some will swim in the ocean of regret, others will lose their salvation all because of influence, communication, relationship, environment and all of that. This ought not to be so. You have been saved so that through you others can be saved too. As a believer, your presence in the village, family or any gathering should make the ungodly uncomfortable. They should count you out when certain reprehensible discussions are going on, they should avoid you when they take to evil plots but ironically some believers will be seen right at the center of such activities all in the name of protecting family interest. Here in the city where you live, you have been known as a faithful Christian but at home when you are in the midst of wolves are you still going to be outstanding or allow your salvation to be devoured by them? Right from January you have been faithful with the Lord keeping away from any form immorality, are you going to allow just a week of festivity mess up your relationship with God? As a believer who lives in the village, you have been burning for God, going all the way for Him when people drink, fight and engage in all sorts of evil in the village you are never part of it, why will you now allow friends and relatives from the city to lure you into activities that will taint your spiritual life? The Scripture says “Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how His ways will really satisfy you.” (Rom 12:2)TLB Be wise and use your position and every opportunity you have to touch lives to the glory of God. Don’t be afraid of anyone because He who sent you knows there are wolves all around before He sent you and He also has the power to keep you safe from harm and evil but be sensitive, don’t abuse your spiritual privileges, don’t indulge in the game of power play with the devil, don’t initiate any move contrary to God’s program, don’t condemn anyone who is not saved yet but gently and wisely introduce them to the part of life. Stay away from masquerades, stay away from rioting and conspiracies, indentify with community development projects and help in any capacity you can, donate to charity. Organize family/compound prayers let your people benefit from your salvation. Remember you are a sheep sent to wolves and must not be destroyed be them. Don’t drop your Bible because of Christmas, don’t stop personal retreat and communion with God because of worldly activities, don’t keep away from fellowship because the denomination you attend fellowship is not in the place where you are spending the Christmas, remember the Body of Christ is one. Christ can come anytime don’t be taken unawares! God bless you!
